Plan to book your pictures for the summer before your senior year! Typically, photographers will open their schedules in February to book that summer and fall! Plan to get on a schedule as soon as you can, time spots are limited!
I offer 3 different packages to suit the needs of multiple different seniors and what works best for them!
Go with the Full Senior Session if you want pictures at multiple different locations and different outfits! Plan a full afternoon/evening for the Full Senior Session! You get up to 3 locations (sports, industrial, nature, etc); multiple outfit changes, and more time to focus on the details! You also get double the amount of pictures than the Average package. You get 40 images to select to be touched up!
My Average Senior Session is the most popular session. This one is great for 2 locations and a few outfit changes! You get to pick out 20 of your favorite images to be touched up!
The Mini session is best for those that just want a couple of pictures. The mini session is simple, one location, 2 outfits, 10 favorite images to be touched up!
—I limit each package to the number of retouched images because it would take me months to edit each individual image and the price for those packages would be much higher to accommodate the time and effort that goes into each image! Retouching images can take minutes to hours to edit!
—I also tend to overshoot! I may deliver many options for you to choose from because there may be certain details that you like in one image vs a different image. I may like one smile and you may like the other! I do try to narrow them down to the best possible ones and I allow you to choose from there!
—-When I give you the proof gallery to view the images to select your favorites, these images will be edited with basic editing (exposure, color correction, cropping). This is how they will look prior to the retouching.
*A retouched may or may not include: Acne removal, removal background objects/distractions, light skin softening, light teeth whitening, flyaway hair removal, etc.
These edits take much longer time to work on and can take a few weeks to get them back. Please be patient with this process!
The location of your session can be just as important as the outfits that you wear! And each outfit may look different depending on the location you pick!
You may have a location that is sentimental to you and would love to document your senior year there! Don’t worry, I will travel and can usually make any location work! I love to scope out new places and I love when you have a unique place in mind!
However, if you don’t have any preferences in location, I have ideas on where we can go!
My studio property, located just a couple miles south of Epworth and 20 minutes from Dubuque or Dyersville, is usually my first pick! During the summer I have some beautiful wildflowers that bloom in mid-June through September! I also have trees, a greenhouse, and an old truck that make for great backdrops for your photos!
I also love going to the Millwork District in Dubuque! There are so many places within walking distance of your parking spot that can bring color and contrast to your photos! There are parking ramps, brick buildings, stairs, and railings that make for fun photos and different poses!
I also love the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens! From Spring through Fall there are flowers blooming and trees of various colors! They have some beautiful water features and bridges as well! It is so well taken care of by their wonderful volunteers that it just makes for a beautiful location for your pictures!
Swiss Valley park is another favorite! You can get in the water here and make a splash in your pictures!!
Feel free to scroll through my Instagram to get some ideas!
This is always the toughest question! There are so many options and ideas and then some none at all!
I love outfits that can go together with other options! Like the same pair of jeans that can be worn for a couple of different tops. This also makes it easier to change!
Mix it up! I always say to start in your favorite outfit! The one you feel most comfortable in! It take a little time to warm up for pictures and feel comfortable and starting in an outfit that you don’t feel comfortable in can be harder to feel confident in your pictures!
Your favorite colors and styles! These are your pictures that you will look at for years to come! Get creative and go all out!
Go glamor! Feel free to bring your prom dress or suit and have a fun picture with something that you rarely wear or want to feature! These can make for some really fun pictures in the wildflowers!
Sports and extracurriculars! Incorporate your hobbies and sports! This is also part of who you are! You can bring your entire collection of jerseys through the years and have them all in one photo! You can bring your favorite collection of books and art supplies! You name it!
Some clothes look great on you, but may not be flattering in a photo! Poofy shirts, baggy clothes, etc; can make you look bigger than you are. Sometimes, I will pin your clothes to make you look your best!
Feel free to bring a few extra outfits if you aren’t sure on what to wear! I am a visual person and like to see what looks best on you.
When in doubt, reach out and ask me!
If it were up to me, I would have full control of the weather and when the sun shines and the perfect temperature! But, that’s under God’s control and we just work around it! We live in Iowa and the weather is unpredictable and can change at a moment’s notice! Sometimes it may rain in one location or even on your way to the location and that location is completely dry!
I don’t like to reschedule if we don’t have to! If it’s cloudy or not sunny and not what you were hoping for, I get it. Schedules can be really tough to work around!
With that being said, the time of day is up to you! During the summer, the sun will set from 8pm-9pm. If you want sunset/golden hour photos, you may want to start your session at 5pm or 6pm, depending on the package you want! Once it’s dark, it’s hard to take pictures!
If you like bright and sunny, we can plan for 2 or 3 in the afternoon! I love the afternoon light in the summer from the sun as it pokes through the trees! It is probably my favorite time to capture photos!
We can even plan for early morning! Grab those sunrise pictures, or early morning photos while it is still cool out!
Q: How do I pose for pictures?
A: Don’t worry about posing! I work with you to position you into the best poses that look best for you! I also watch the way you move, sometimes things you do and the way you pose naturally looks way better than I could ever pose you! And don’t worry, I show you the pictures to make sure you love what we are capturing!
A: Also note, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I will get you set up and posed, make sure your clothes are laying nicely, and touch up any hairs! I have my own hair pomade and spray on hand to touch up at a moment’s notice! If you’ve done any pictures with me, you know that I take a little longer for pictures and this is why! My biggest pet peeve is fly away hairs!
Q: Do I need professional hair and makeup?
A: This is totally up to you! If you are comfortable having someone do you hair and makeup, then book it! Some of my gals prefer to do their own hair and makeup so they look how they normally look! Keep it simple and keep it how you want to look. Personally, I don’t like professional makeup, I’d rather do it myself. I want your pictures to reflect you!
Q: I have acne or an unexpected pimple, can this be edited?
A: Absolutely! You need to let me know what you want to have touched up! Sometimes it’s hard to decipher between a pimple or a freckle and I’d hate to edit you to look like someone different! Any pictures that you choose for your package will be touched up with editing. I lightly whiten teeth, soften skin, remove acne, and anything else that I need to touch up to the best of my ability.
Q: What if I have more outfits that I want to wear for pictures?
A: No worries! Feel free to bring extra outfits and we can see which ones are your favorites! It all depends on how much time we have and how quickly you can change! Sometimes and outfit that looks really cute on, might not look so cute in pictures! Flowy shirts sometimes tend to make you look wider and we will tuck the shirt in to fit best! I also bring clothespins to tuck excess material in!
Q: Could I incorporate some things I’m passionate about?
A: ABSOLUTELY! The more creative, the better! I love to incorporate things like sports, books, band instruments, skateboard, guitar, anything to make your session more fun and more creative!
Q: Can I bring friends or siblings with?
A: Sure! The more the merrier!! I love to have friends come along and help you feel more relaxed and comfortable! Mom and family members are welcome too! These sessions are meant to be fun and memorable, not scary and uncomfortable!
Q: Any other questions?
A: Email me! I’m happy to help out with whatever I can!
MOST OF ALL…. My goal for every session is to have fun, make this a memorable experience, and for you to love your pictures!
P.S.: I usually like to bring along a speaker during our sessions. Send me your playlist or your favorite artists! Otherwise, I tend to sing to you!
